Oberschlema radium baths
When strong radon springs were tapped in the Marx-Semler-Stolln in Oberschlema between 1908 and 1912, the strongest radium bath in the world quickly developed after 1918. The spa administration advertised bathing, drinking and inhalation cures (emanation) and the dispatch of radioactive water for drinking cures. Just ten years after it was founded, it was one of the most important German spas (over 17,000 spa guests in 1943). From October 31, 1924, the municipality of Oberschlema was allowed to use the title “Radiumbad Oberschlema” with the approval of the Ministry of the Interior.
The Oberschlema spa operated for a full 28 years, from 1918 to 1946. Oberschlema owed its fame to the tremendous healing success of its outstanding springs, which had the highest natural radon concentration in the world. Immerse yourself in the heyday of the radium baths and marvel at the special exhibits.
In the Kurpark you will find time windows that show you the former locations of the "Kurhaus" (Spa House) and concerts and allow you to take a look back.
