The purpose of the company and thus the task of Wismut GmbH is the decommissioning of its facilities and the associated remediation and recultivation of a landscape and environment shaped by decades of unchecked extraction and processing of uranium ores.

In addition to above-ground remediation (demolition of operating facilities), underground remediation plays a particularly important role. The views from 1960 to the present day clearly show the rehabilitation of the slag heap landscape.
